The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded on June 25, 1997, as the Atlanta Thrashers, a relocation of the NHL’s original Winnipeg Jets team, which left the city in 1996. The current name was adopted in 2011 after the Thrashers were sold to a group of Canadian investors.
The Jets play their home games at Bell MTS Place, which seats 15,294 spectators. The team has qualified for the playoffs once, in 2015, where they were swept by the Anaheim Ducks in four games. They made it to the Western Conference Final in 2018, losing to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The team is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment, which also owns and operates the MTS Centre and the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Winnipeg Jets have a rivalry with the Minnesota Wild. The two teams have met in the playoffs twice, in 2003 and 2018. The Jets won both matchups.
